The official opening of the kissing gate sponsored by Staffordshire UNISON took place on Workers Memorial Day, 28th April 2022 adjacent to the Charlie Basset Public House at Dilhorne.

Tea and coffee was served afterwards and the Landlord said the gate had been positively received by walkers and patrons alike, who took a keen interest in the plaque and said that it had made things there considerably safer (which is certainly no bad thing, as we remembered the dead and continue to fight for the living with our campaign on health and safety, with visits to Burton Town Hall and East Borough Council Street Cleansing Department later the same day). It’s in an absolutely beautiful location and is a great thing to be involved in and demonstrates that the Branch can and will work in partnership with Staffordshire County Council wherever possible (for the benefit of our members and the wider community) and this was reinforced by the presence of Becky Lee from Staffordshire County Council and the wonderful lads who did the all the hard graft installing it, who were present too.

All in all, a wonderful and fitting tribute for workers who went to work and sadly did not return or are suffering from a work related illness.
