New UNISON research shows that 2.47% of local government workers were victims of violence at work in the last year – higher than the national average of 1.4% for all UK workers. This means you are about 75% more likely to be a victim of violence at work if you work in a council or school. This cannot continue – violence should never be “part of the job”.
Get involved in the campaign to end violence at work, using our new End Violence at Work website. This shows how many violent incidents were recorded against local government workers in your area – it also lets members and the public email their councillor and asks them to sign up to UNISON’s End Violence at Work Charter by presenting a motion to their council. Campaigning and raising awareness of this issue will get your employer to take violence at work seriously.
