You and your colleagues in councils and schools are due to be balloted for industrial action over the inadequate pay offer put forward by the local government employers.

We’re sure you’ve got a lot of questions and we are here to answer them.

The decision to ballot members, and potentially ask them to take industrial action, is never taken lightly. We believe it is the best means of securing the pay rise that you need and deserve.

We must stand together and demand a proper pay rise that doesn’t just keep members’ heads above water, but one that begins to reverse the unacceptable pay erosion that you and your colleagues have suffered for over a decade.

Our pay claim to the employers is reasonable and affordable. We know that underfunding is hitting councils across the UK hard, but this is no excuse for poverty wages.

Our claim would be a huge step towards ending the crisis of recruitment and retention that continues to damage our public services.
