Winter Essentials Grant Programme 2026

The Winter Fuel Essentials Grant programme will be launched on 10 December 2025.

You shouldn’t have to choose between heating and eating, but UNISON Welfare is there for you. If you’re a UNISON member on a low income, you may be eligible to apply for a £200 voucher towards your food shopping.

Key features:

  • Payment will be by voucher
  • Application process will again be a 24-hour application window and subsequent random ballot
  • Launch date will be Wednesday 10 December 2025 at 12 noon

Applications will need to be made online during the 24-hour period from 12 noon on Wednesday 10 December.

If members are unable to complete the application due to a disability access need, they should email: weg@unison.co.uk or call UNISONdirect on 0800 0 857 857.

All applicants will be emailed before the end of the year to let them know if they have been successful or not in the random ballot to progress through to the assessment phase.

Applicants who have successfully progressed through the random ballot to the assessment phase will be asked to provide specific supporting documents.

Assessment of supporting documents will commence in January 2026; no payments will be made in 2025.
